A cat adorably 'barked' at a family's new kitten after learning the trick by growing up with dogs.

A gray and white cat named Asher was in the middle of going to the bathroom when he was introduced to his new mini me, Waffles, a June TikTok video showed.

After a nervous stare-down that lasted several seconds and forced the little one to retreat to the corner in fear, the two-year-old cat jumped up slightly and barked at the newcomer.

The little one didn't back down as he continued to peek around the corner at his new sibling, only for the older cat to bark at him again before hunkering down in his litter box.

Asher grew up with a Chihuahua named Emma and a husky-basenji mix Ada Belle, both 14, their owner, Katie, told Newsweek

The Alabama family decided to get Waffles to give Asher a younger pet to play with to give their 16-year-old cat, Whitaker, a chance to relax.

'The video I posted is one of the first times Asher and Waffles were able to get close to each other without one of us sitting on the ground with them supervising,' Katie told Newsweek.

'Apparently, Asher had been paying attention to how the Chihuahua, Emma, greets other animals because he just unexpectedly let out a couple of barks.'

Katie said she'd never heard Asher bark before, but it 'cracked us up.'

'We thought it was just too cute and funny to not share,' she told the outlet.

Rest assured, Asher certainly warmed up to Waffles, and days later the pair were seen 'playing, snuggling, and grooming each other,' she added to the outlet.

Several TikTok users jumped to the comments to say they've heard a cat bark before either and found it too funny to watch.

'Why is it a full body bark,' a user questioned.

'Right?! I think he was practicing his horse jump too,' the cat's owner, Katie, replied.

'The kitten is like, "I know I’m new at this but not sure that’s right…"' another user wrote.

In an update, Katie shared a video of how Asher and Waffles were '100 percent' getting along, showing the two cats snuggling up with one another and playing together

Another joked that the cat was just breaking in the new guy, saying: 'Cat: this is how we welcome newcomers.'

One user the two-year-old feline was simply 'bilingual' after learning his other siblings' language.
