Bernie Sanders has admitted Joe Biden is 'is old, prone to gaffes, walks stiffly and had a disastrous debate with Trump.'

The Democrat Senator laid out his views in an essay for the New York Times, in which he accepted that the president is 'not the ideal candidate.'

However, he warned his party's supporters that obsessing over Biden's blunders would only ensure that Donald Trump is elected.

Sanders, 82, specifically took aim at a vocal set of elected Democrats, whom he labeled a 'firing squad,' who have been calling for the president to drop out since the presidential debate.

'Enough! Mr. Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he will be the candidate and should be the candidate,' Sanders wrote.

'And with an effective campaign that speaks to the needs of working families, he will not only defeat Mr. Trump but beat him badly. It’s time for Democrats to stop the bickering and nit-picking.'

The Vermont rep admitted that he and the president do not see eye to eye on several issues including U.S. support for Israel's war on Gaza and the Affordable Care Act, which he views as inadequate.

However, he defended the president's 'excellent' record in office, as well as his performance in the last few weeks.

Biden has stated his commitment to running, but his detractors have used his recent bumbling as proof he does not have the mental capacity to lead.

'For over two weeks now, the corporate media has obsessively focused on the June presidential debate and the cognitive capabilities of a man who has, perhaps, the most difficult and stressful job in the world,' Sanders said.

'The media has frantically searched for every living human being who no longer supports the president or any neurologist who wants to appear on TV. Unfortunately, too many Democrats have joined that circular firing squad.'

He stated that despite his own misgivings about Biden, he is still a superior choice to Trump, whom he reduced down to his litany of felony charges.

'Unlike the Republicans, they do not have to explain away a candidate who now has 34 felony convictions and faces charges that could lead to dozens of additional convictions.

'Who has been hit with a $5 million judgment after he was found liable in a sexual abuse case, who has been involved in more than 4,000 lawsuits, who has repeatedly gone bankrupt and who has told thousands of documented lies and falsehoods,' Sanders wrote.

He accused Trump of wanting to protect the billionaires at the expense of everyday Americans.

'If Mr. Biden and his supporters focus on these issues — and refuse to be divided and distracted — the president will rally working families to his side in the industrial Midwest swing states and elsewhere and win the November election,' Sanders said.

'And let me say this as emphatically as I can: For the sake of our kids and future generations, he must win.'

The essay comes after weeks of embarrassing missteps by the president which have been spotlighted since the car crash presidential debate on June 27.

Just this week, Biden reignited concerns when he accidentally referred to Ukraine's President Zelensky as Putin.
