Inside America's most expensive mobile homes and glitzy beach-side trailer parks where one-bedders can easily go for millions

3 months ago 12

Million-dollar mobile homes are hitting the market in exclusive beachfront communities coveted by celebrities and the ultra-wealthy.

Real estate prices have surged across the country, particularly in California and New York, where they have reached all-time highs in cities like Los Angeles and Manhattan.

And while a mobile home - often no more than one bedroom and one bathroom - may seem like an effective cost-cutting measure, the latest properties to hit the market are far from a bargain.

This includes a $3.2 million, 600-square-foot abode listed for sale on Thursday. The property is seated in Montauk, a glitzy New York hamlet known for its beaches and scenic views.

The home sports two bedrooms and one bathroom and is currently the most expensive active listing in the Montauk Shores mobile home park.

The 600-sqaure-foot abode at 100 Deforest Road was listed for $3.2 million on Thursday

The park has a history spanning nearly seven decades and has seen many celebrities come and go.

Vitamin Water co-founder J. Darius Bikoff, singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and film producer Karen Lauder are among the famous faces to snap up their own slices of property.

The latest mobile home to hit the market features a private driveway, outdoor shower and sun-soaked back porch.

The listing advertises opportunities for expansion, including 'adding extra bedrooms, creating an outdoor entertainment area, or incorporating eco-friendly features.'

Residents in the gated community share amenities including a pool, basketball court and clubhouse.

While Montauk Shores is arguably the most prominent name on the East Coast, California is home to several ritzy trailer parks.

Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran is the proud owner of a double-wide in swanky Pacific Palisades. The real estate tycoon spent $800,000 on the property before pouring an additional $150,000 into it.

A home in the same neighborhood was listed for just under $1.6 million in March. The trailer at 4 Kiki Place features two beds and two bathrooms spread across a modest 1,200 square feet.

Malibu's Paradise Cove has been dubbed the country's 'most glamorous trailer park' (pictured: 101 Paradise Cove Road)

The property 'offers 180 degrees of unparalleled ocean and mountain views,' according to the listing, made possible by an expansive deck that faces the Pacific.

A 30-minute drive down the coast leads to Paradise Cove, which has earned the hard-fought title of 'America's most glamorous trailer park.'

'It is the ideal spot for ocean views, beach access, and community – all 276 mobile homes here have direct access to Point Dume’s private beaches,' boasts the community's website.

Designer Betsey Johnson once owned a two-bedroom, hot pink trailer in the community that was listed for $2 million in 2019.

Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac fame also owned property in the famed trailer park, which she later sold for $5.3 million.

Among the active listings is 101 Paradise Cove Road, which carries a hefty price tag of just under $4 million.

The home features an expansive deck, built-in outdoor kitchen, and indoor breakfast bar with an ocean view.

The property at 241 Paradise Cove Road has been listed for $3,950,000, boasting three bedrooms and two bathrooms

However, its most notable feature is its location in the coveted 'Bluff section' of the mobile home park

Just down the street, 241 Paradise Cove Road was listed for $3,950,000.

It boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms, noticeably more than the average mobile home - but its claim to fame is being located in an even more exclusive part of the community, dubbed the 'Bluff section.'

The property features high ceilings and expansive living and dining areas that seamlessly blend together through an open-floor layout.

So revered is the community that one of its listings even featured in Architectural Digest.

The one-bedroom, one-bathroom mobile home at 16 Paradise Cove Road hit the market for a cool $2 million. It is billed as 'a piece of art, lovingly crafted with unparalleled style and attention to detail.'

Buyers looking for an extra incentive will be pleased to learn that it comes with a golf cart, 'to make getting to the beach even easier.'
