A Wyoming city has been left rattled after carefully arranged animal carcasses have been repeatedly found at the same intersection.

Cheyenne Animal Control has been called to the South Greeley Highway and East Nation Road intersection at least six times in the last four months to deal with dead animals that have been deliberately arranged next to the remote roadside, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

'One incident involved two raccoons and a skunk, found neatly arranged side by side,' it wrote. 'This is a pattern that has caught the attention of both Cheyenne Animal Control and local residents.'

It is illegal in the state to 'deposit or place dead animals into rivers, ditches, railroad right-of-ways, highways, or [on] public grounds,' according to police.

This isn't the first time the Laramie County Sheriff's Office has noticed the unusual sighting as they saw additional reports back in 2022 at that location.

Animal Control Officer Johnny Kindsvater (pictured) said it doesn't appear the animals had been hit by a car or were killed by other animals

However, this year, there 'definitely seems to be a pattern to it,' Animal Control Officer Johnny Kindsvater told Cowboy State Daily

'It’s certainly concerning,' he said.

At first, officers were just picking up the carcasses without a thought, but now they're curious as to why these animals died and they're being placed at the specific location, which is rather remote with only a concrete business nearby.

Animal Control does plan to investigate, although it does not have the resources to autopsy every animal found.

They face further challenges as there are not a lot of cameras nearby and it's in an isolated part of Cheyenne. In addition, they believe the animals are being dumped at night, Kindsvater told Cowboy State Daily.

The animals started appearing in April this year and at some point, they were called out two days in a row

'It's certainly bizarre,' Kindsvater said.

Kindsvater told Your Wyoming Link that it doesn't appear the animals had been hit by a car or were killed by other animals.

'They don't appear to have lacerations or any other crazy signs of trauma,' he told the outlet.

Law enforcement is now encouraging Cheyenne residents to report any 'suspicious activity in the area' to police or animal control.
