A pregnant mother-to-be has given birth to a baby boy in a Queensland service station car park with the help of a sock and shoelace.

Sharyn Daley was working at Cheap as Chips discount store in Logan, Brisbane, on Friday when a man ran in screaming 'that a lady's about to have a baby', she said.

The assistant store manager grabbed a towel from a shelf and ran outside to help the woman who was in her car parked in the neighbouring 7-Eleven servo.

It is understood the baby's head was already crowning and the birth was over within seconds after quick-thinking Ms Daley arrived on the scene.

'(All I could think of was) just survival. Someone needed help. So, you just rush and do what you can and instincts take over,' Ms Daley told 7News

She said the baby boy didn't look well when he was born.

'He was discoloured so I had to stimulate him and give him a rub and pat on the back,' Ms Daley told The Courier Mail.

'A few minutes went by and he started to move better and was squeezing my finger tight and his colour came back.'

After giving the baby back to his mum, Ms Daley then took off her right shoe and tied the shoelace around the umbilical cord.

She then took off her sock and placed the placenta inside, keeping it close to the baby.

An ambulance arrived and took the family to hospital before Ms Daley had a chance to ask for their names.

She hopes to be reunited with the family to gift them a special baby hamper and said the whole experience felt like something out of a movie.

'I'd love to know who they are, and give bub a hug and let mum know I'm so proud of her,' Ms Daley said.

'We have a cot, a change table, a mattress and a beautiful big hamper for them to help them get started.

'We are trying to look for them, I'd love to meet them again.'
