Free-agent pitcher Aaron Nola has re-signed with the Philadelphia Phillies on a seven-year contract worth $172million, according to reports.

Nola was one of seven players to reject $20m qualifying offers from the Phillies earlier this month after his previous contract expired at the end of the 2023 season.

But according to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the 30-year-old has extended his career-long stay with the franchise by another seven years after penning a lucrative new deal.

Nola, who posted a 12-9 record with a 4.46 ERA in 32 starts last season, is set to undergo a physical later on Sunday before the deal is finalized.

It is believed he turned down interest from divisional rival the Atlanta Braves in order to commit his future to the Phillies.

An All-Star in 2018, the player owns a 90-71 mark with a 3.72 ERA in 235 career starts since being selected by the Phillies with the seventh overall pick of the MLB draft in 2014.
