Aaron Rodgers is expected to medically cleared to play for the New York Jets on Christmas Eve - just 104 days after tearing his Achilles on his debut on September 11.
It would then be the choice of coach Robert Saleh for the 40-year-old to play.
Rodgers tore his Achilles against the Bills on September 11 and had surgery on September 13.
It means that Rodgers is potentially less than two weeks away from an astonishing NFL return.
The Jets play the Dolphins this Sunday in Miami before returning to New York for the Christmas Eve encounter at the MetLife.
It's another slice of good news for the Jets, who kept slender hopes of making the playoffs alive with a win over Houston Texans on Sunday.
Rodgers was on the sidelines for that game as Zach Wilson returned to play as quarterback after being benched for the last two games and the 24-year-old found his form with a superb display.
He led his team to a 30-6 victory, finishing with 301 yards on 27 of 36 passing with two touchdowns.
'The second half, I thought Zach probably played the best game of his career,' coach Saleh said after the game.
He'll be expected to continue for the Dolphins game on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium, where the Jets will have to upset the odds for victory.
The Dolphins are 9-3 for the season ahead of their game Monday night against Tennessee Titans.
Rodgers will be expected to address how close he is to playing on Tuesday when he makes his weekly appearance on the Part McAfee show.
He has, however, typically been coy about exactly where he is on the comeback trail on those appearances - often saying how grueling his rehab has been before appearing on the field with his teammates for pre-game warmups, throwing the ball.
