Adam Peaty's ex-girlfriend says she has 'chosen to forgive him and move forward' after swimming star revealed he was 'broken' by alcoholism and depression during their time together - before he moved on with Gordon Ramsay's daughter Holly

The ex-girlfriend of British Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty says she has 'forgiven' him after they split up and he started a new relationship with Gordon Ramsey's daughter.

Eirianedd Munro, the mother of his three-year-old son George, revealed she had moved on after breaking up with the star who has faced depression and alcoholism.

She told MailOnline: 'I've chosen to forgive and move forward - anything other than that does not serve the wellbeing of myself, my son and our family.

'We continue to love, care and pray for Adam and are wishing him a full recovery.'

Peaty met Miss Ramsay, 24, daughter of the TV chef, while competing on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, while he was still together with artist Miss Munro.

The swimmer met Miss Munro on Tinder in 2019 while training in Loughborough, where she was a student - and their son George was born in September 2020.

But they had an acrimonious split in August 2022 and he revealed this week that he had suffered 'three years of hell' - which covers the time when he was with her.

Peaty met Miss Ramsay through her sister Tilly, who was also on Strictly. In May 2023, they began dating - and went public with their relationship one month later.

On Tuesday, the swimmer revealed that he had found 'peace in the water' after recovering from depression and alcoholism to qualify for this summer's Olympics .

The three-time Olympic champion opened up on his 'past three years of hell' after winning the British 100m men's breaststroke title with his quickest time since 2021 .

Peaty, 29, has been rebuilding his life after reaching a low point in 2022 when he split up with Ms Munro and lost an eight-year unbeaten streak.

But after qualifying for the Olympics with a time of 57.94 seconds, he said his life was back on track thanks to his relationship with Ms Ramsay, quality time with his son, and inspiration drawn from his Christian faith.

'I've learned to appreciate the moments of greatness for myself,' he said. 'For me, that was a great swim, executed well – but the most promising thing is that I'm finding peace in the water now, instead of anger and just fighting it, and trying to win like that.

'I'm finding a new version of myself which I'm really liking, and I think that's a version that can do really well at the Olympics. This is a real win for my team, my family and myself. We have come through the past three years of hell.

'I didn't want to see a pool again. The sport had broken me. I didn't know what route to go down and so many things got in my way.

Peaty and Miss Ramsay have been flaunting their romance on Instagram after getting together

In a Valentine's Day post on social media, Peaty labelled Holly Ramsay as his 'best friend'

'But now I am waking up each day and enjoying my job. Who knows what the ending is going to be but I am having fun along the way. It may not end up as a fairytale, but it might.'

Miss Ramsay also took to her Instagram to praise Peaty as she shared clips and videos from the ceremony and said in the caption that his determination was 'inspiring to all'.

She penned in the caption: 'Packing my bags and I'll see you in Paris. You never fail to amaze me. Your determination, physical and mental strength is inspiring to all. Well done my love.'

Peaty's improved performance in the pool comes after took a competitive break in March last year to focus on his mental health and has been speaking to psychologists and writing a journal.

He has also found a new purpose by coaching children at his AP Race Clinics, while he has been clearing his head walking in national parks and running.

Peaty is in a flourishing relationship with Holly Ramsay, 24, the daughter of TV chef Gordon Ramsay, after they met on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.

In a belated Valentine's Day post this year, he wrote on Instagram: 'You help me become a better man everyday and I can't wait to see what the future holds with you. No one knows me like you do. My best friend. You're the goat [greatest of all time].'

The split came just weeks after Miss Munro awkwardly refused to pass Peaty their son while congratulating him at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, after he won gold in the breaststroke

The Olympic swimmer took to Instagram to share the news of his split back in August 2022

They announced their relationship to the world in June last year and unveiled matching tattoo tributes to one another that December.

The Olympic champion took to Instagram on his birthday late last year to share snaps of himself posing in the infinity pool at the Ramsays' Cornish bolthole, where he had spent most of the festive season.

The tattoo lover also showed off his new 'H' inking on his chest – shortly before Miss Ramsay unveiled her A inking behind her heavily pierced ear.

At the time of his break-up with Miss Munro in August 2022, he announced on social media: 'Eiri and George, I'm sorry for letting you down. My only interest is for the well-being of our family at this difficult time.'

Miss Munro also took to her own social media to announce the split, predicting she would face an 'incredibly difficult' future.

The split came just weeks after Miss Munro awkwardly refused to pass Peaty their son while congratulating him at the Commonwealth Games, after he won gold in the 50m breaststroke.

After the swimmer was awarded his medal, cameras saw him heading to the stands where his then-girlfriend was tearfully watching with their son.

What is the latest on Olympics swimming qualifying for Britain?

Adam Peaty finished first in his signature 100m breaststroke event on the first day of the British Championships in London this week.

The 29-year-old touched the wall in 57.94 seconds in the evening's final - the fastest men's 100m breaststroke time in the world this year and an improvement on the 59.10 seconds it took him to win bronze at February's World Championships in Doha.

Peaty, who still holds the world record of 56.88 seconds in the event, is now set to defend his back-to-back Olympic titles after securing a nomination in the British championships, one year after pulling out of the 2023 event to begin what became an extended mental health-motivated hiatus from the sport.

The most direct way of securing a Paris 2024 nomination this week is to finish first in the open finals of each individual event, provided athletes clock in at or under a specific time set by the newly-rebranded Aquatics GB, though nominations are still subject to an official rubber-stamp by the British Olympic Association.

Peaty emerged from his afternoon heat with a time of 58.53, the only man of 64 entrants in the event's heats to touch the wall in under a minute, marking another significant step on a comeback journey for the five-time Olympic medallist.

He was sidelined from the 2022 World Championships due to a foot injury and last year withdrew from the British Championships, making his competitive return in Doha.

James Wilby, who finished second to Peaty, missed the 59.45sec nomination time by an agonising 0.02 seconds but could still be one of a maximum 30 swimmers nominated by Aquatics GB following the championships' conclusion on Sunday.

Scotland's Keanna MacInnes, 22, punched her ticket after overtaking Laura Stephens in the women's 200m butterfly, though Stephens - the reigning world champion in the event - also finished below the required nomination time to put herself in contention for Team GB.

Freya Colbert, 20, who claimed women's 400m individual medley gold in Doha, finished ahead of training partner Abbie Wood in the women's 200m freestyle to secure her nomination, while Wood's time was also under the nomination standard.

This is the first year the British Championships combined events for both para and non-disabled athletes, and it was Poppy Maskill who emerged with the top, sub-nomination standard time in the multi-classification women's para 200m freestyle where five athletes finished under the standard.

Bath-based Kieran Bird came close in the men's 400m freestyle, finishing in 3:45.63 - a hair off the required 3:45.43 - but might have also done enough do impress the selectors.

The split marked another instance of the doomed 'Strictly curse' striking once again, after Peaty raised eyebrows with his chemistry with pro partner Katya Jones on the dance floor in 2021.

Peaty was the latest in a long line of celebrities whose relationships ended during or after the dance show.

But the swimmer's brother James Peaty insisted the split was not due to his sibling's appearance on the hit BBC dance show, insisting: 'He was in it over a year ago. It has nothing to do with Strictly.'

Despite his new relationship, Peaty said he has been very much involved in raising his son.

He told Mail Sport last year: 'It was very hard at the start. Like a lot of single parents, you struggle because of the guilt. You want to be together for the children or the child.

'It's a four-hour round trip, so it is quite difficult. It's very hard to be a professional athlete and a present dad, but hopefully one day he understands.'

Peaty said he had managed to strike a 'nice balance' of seeing George every week or two and is 'very amicable' with Miss Munro.

Last September, he celebrated George's third birthday and shared a series of sweet photos to Instagram.

Alongside being a present father with his son George, he has developed a Christian faith which has been very influential over his life.

As he told Mail Sport's David Coverdale in June last year: 'I go to church every Sunday. It's been the last few months and it's definitely helped.

'It's about being a better person. Not only being a better athlete and fulfilling my gift, but also being a better dad for George. There are so many other reasons. It gets quite deep. But it's great to be a part of.'

He explained how a conversation with a priest, the five-time Olympic chaplain Ashley Null, helped him put his identity as an athlete into perspective and understand the priorities of life.

'He said to me, 'An Olympic gold medal is the coldest thing you will ever wear',' recalls Peaty, who wore one at Rio 2016 and two at Tokyo 2020. 'It feels so warm because you have achieved your goal, but at what cost?

'Relationships end, your friends and family are on the back burner, even your own children have to be on the back burner.

'As athletes, we expect a gold medal to fix all our problems because that's the only thing we care about, in the sense of job outcome. But as soon as you realise it doesn't fix anything, it can be the coldest thing because you have sacrificed so much. You have to make sure you address those issues.'

Last year, Peaty appeared with a nasty gash above his eye after allegedly getting involved in a bust-up with Team GB team-mate Luke Greenbank.

Reports in The Sun claimed that this took place after Peaty made a comment about Greenbank's girlfriend, Anna Hopkin, who is also a Team GB swimmer.
