AFL star Taylor Adams has revealed why he left premiers Collingwood to join the Sydney Swans ahead of the 2024 season.

Adams, 30, who missed the Magpies grand final triumph due to a hamstring injury, admitted the writing was on the wall when he was moved out of the midfield.

He watched on at the MCG as his teammates won their first flag in 12 years, and after some soul searching, the vice-captain decided it was time for a fresh start in the Harbour City.

'It would have been nice to be a part of the grand final, but so it goes,' Adams said.

'I was clearly playing out of my preferred position at Collingwood towards the end of the year.....I [also] felt my footy was on the decline, and there's probably space for another inside midfielder at the Swans.

The 30-year-old missed the Magpies grand final triumph against Brisbane due to a hamstring injury

'The footy club is in a great position, they [Swans] played in the grand final two years ago and finals this year.

'It's a fresh start for myself and my fiancé to remove ourselves from the [Melbourne] bubble, get up to the Eastern Suburbs and try something new.'

The Swans have been quick to revamp their roster following the departure of Buddy Franklin, with Brodie Grundy, former Fremantle defender Joel Hamling and ex-Melbourne Demons midfielder James Jordon new faces at the Bloods.

Adams stressed he 'doesn't need to change the club culture, his role is simply to enhance it.'

He also wants to lift the premiership trophy come September 30 next year.

'There's only one thing I want to get my hands on, it's pretty obvious,' he told News Corp.

'I played in the 2018 granny [grand final] but came up short....I've been chasing one of them [flags] for 12 years now.

'When you get towards the pointy end of your career it becomes even more about a premiership. Hopefully, that's the reason I'm here and we can obtain one.

'There is the makings of a really good team here and I'm looking forward to being a part of it.'
