One-time AFL player turned NFL star Arryn Siposs has revealed the brutal way he was sacked by the Philadelphia Eagles following a crucial error in last season's Super Bowl.

Siposs, 31, labelled his exit 'business like' and added clearing out his locker back in August 'wasn't fun.'

The punter was also delisted by St Kilda in 2015 - and confirmed the level of compassion was very different down under.

'From the AFL point of view, they try and work something out for you at a later stage, or you have a chat about things that you can work on and why they made the decision and that,' he told SEN Radio on Thursday.

'In the US, I go in the door to meet the GM [General Manager] over at the Eagles and it's just basically "all the best, we are going to move with somebody else and good luck".

NFL punter Siposs suffered a howler moment playing in the Super Bowl back in February, which cost his side dearly

'[It was] probably one of the shortest meetings I've had in my entire life. And then the cleaning out of the locker process afterwards [is] obviously never fun.

'It's kind of very, very short and sharp and very, very much business-like, for sure.'

Following a match-defining mistake in February's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Siposs was on borrowed time.

A poor punt from Siposs in the final quarter of the match was returned to within touching distance of the goal line by Kadarius Toney, which helped the Chiefs score the match-winning touchdown on their way to an epic three-point win.

Siposs played 32 games for the Eagles but was waived by the club before this season began, then added to the practice squad before being released in September.

He unsuccessfully trialled for a spot with the Arizona Cardinals before opting to return to Melbourne with his wife and daughter with an aim to work in the AFL.

The 31-year-old was set to coach VFL club Williamstown, but instead has secured a role as a development coach with Hawthorn under head coach Sam Mitchell.

Arryn Siposs was also delisted by St Kilda in 2015 in what has been a turbulent sporting career

Siposs booted 22 goals in his 28 appearances for the Saints before turning his attention to college football in the US with Auburn

'Arryn joins our club with great experience and perspective following exposure across two high performance environments, in the AFL and NFL, which we believe will benefit our program immensely,' Hawthorn General Manager of Football Rob McCartney said in a recent club statement.

'We see him being a great fit for our talented young list and helping develop players, both on and off the field.

'We believe our entire coaching team is well balanced to continue developing our young list and giving them every opportunity to succeed.'

Before embarking on his NFL journey in the US, Siposs played 28 AFL games for St Kilda between 2011 and 2015.

His huge right boot made him an instant success in the college ranks with Auburn, before Siposs was picked up by Detroit as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL draft.

He immediately experienced the cut-throat nature of American football when he was cut and re-signed on three separate occasions within seven months of joining the team.
