An urgent recall has been issued for tahini paste over fears the product could be contaminated with salmonella.

AB World Foods has recalled its Al'Fez Natural Tahini Paste 160g.

The product is sold at Woolworths stores across the country. 

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand warned the product could cause 'illness' if consumed.

'Consumers should not eat this product,' it said.

'Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.'

Shoppers who have purchased the product have been asked to return the item to receive a full refund.
