Alan Brazil breaks his silence after leaving his birthday broadcast an hour before the end... as he reveals what he thinks caused him to abandon show

Alan Brazil has broken his silence on why he had to leave his birthday talkSPORT broadcast early, which left co-host Ray Parlour without his right-hand man for an hour.

The show, held last week, took place in front of a live crowd at the Marquis hotel and restaurant in Suffolk, with those in attendance left somewhat perplexed when Brazil disappeared with before the end.

The 65-year-old did not to return but colleague Mike Parry allayed fears that this was due to anything too serious, confirming Brazil was 'ill' with 'a 48 hour virus.

Brazil himself has now broken his silence to ease any fears fans may have had over his health, speaking to co-host Dean Saunders on Wednesday.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil explained how he felt as he dashed from set on his special day, with Saunders suggesting his friend was 'on death's door'.

'E.coli. Oh, dear,' Brazil began, insisitng that he had not had any alcohol on the day. 'I was seriously ill, horrible.

'I was reading about the 200 people in hospital. I lost it. I went dizzy, all sorts. Horrible. I'm never physically sick. I was that day.'

Saunders responded: 'I got a bit worried when you squeezed your hands together and went, 'Something's wrong'. Were your hands feeling all sweaty or something?'

To which Brazil replied: 'Yeah. It was just horrible. You know, I think I've had it once before, a long time ago. But then I was reading about it.

'You know they've put it down to lettuce now? All these supermarkets have recalled this, recalled that, they reckon now it's down to lettuce.

'I love a Caesar salad, me. It's not saying that's what it was, but they're saying it was lettuce in wraps and sandwiches, that's what they're saying.'

In the aftermatch of the event, Parlour also shared a video addressing the situation on X.

Speaking from the bar at his home, Parlour said: 'Great week, we was up in Marquis which is a beautiful place right near Alan's.

'The show was brilliant on Friday even though Alan didn't make the last hour-and-a-half. He had to go and have a lie down, he weren't feeling too well. He was fine yesterday. I stayed over on Friday night and he was absolutely fine on Saturday so that's the good news. I'll be back with him next week.'

Parlour then finished off his weekly Sunday post by downing a 'Cobra bomb', which is a Jager bomb made with beer.

The former Scotland international also went went AWOL in March after a day out at Cheltenham Festival. 

On his return, Brazil gave four separate reasons for his absence from the breakfast hotseat, including having a bad knee, a bad chest and having caught a bug from meeting so many individuals. He also stated he was too tired after a long week.
