Andy Murray and Liam Broady locked horns in a hilarious social media spat over the tournament conditions at the Atlanta Open in the United States.

Broady, the world No 206, is currently taking part in qualifiers for the showpiece and won the first set of his tricky showdown against J.C. Shang this afternoon.

But his day got off to the worst possible start after the breakfast spread on offer left him deeply unimpressed - pushing him to take to X to vent his frustration.

'First match at 10am today so have to warm up at 8:30,' Broady tweeted. 'Breakfast doesn't open till 9am? Walked into player area and we've got… bagels. Really good for a high standard of tennis and tennis tournament in Atlanta.'

Broady, who was knocked out of the singles and the men's doubles in the first round at Wimbledon, then found himself dragged into a brutal exchange with Murray.

In a response dripping with sarcasm, Murray fired back by saying: 'Hope you are ok, mate. That sounds terrible. Surprised you hadn't checked the breakfast situation ahead of time like most professionals would have done.'

Broady then replied: 'You have five people just to wipe your bum for you man you've never checked a situation ahead of time in your life we are not the same.'

Murray's final response was simple - an emoji of a fishing rod with a fish on the hook.

John Isner also waded in to defend Atlanta, posting: 'There's a Publix literally right next door to the hotel that opens at 7am and closed last night at 10pm. Every room at the hotel has a full kitchen that you can make breakfast in. Good luck.'

A former doubles partner of Murray's, Broady has struggled with a series of injuries and stepped into action at Wimbledon after playing just once in four months.

He also missed the Nottingham Open owing to a case of concussion and has suffered from migraines after hitting his head on the boot of his car.

Focusing on the positives, however, Broady said: 'To play five sets after only playing one match in the previous four months, it's a real increase in the serve load.

'So to just have come out of it and not end up worse off than when I started is the most important thing. I'm hoping to get over to the States as soon as possible for the US hard court swing because I'm as fresh as anyone at the moment.'
