Angel Reese gushes over Candace Parker during awkward press conference after breaking WNBA legend's record

Angel Reese has nothing but respect for Candace Parker. 

The Chicago Sky rookie gushed over the WNBA legend when she was asked about beating one of her records on Sunday. 

'She's the G.O.A.T.,' Reese told reporters on a Zoom call Sunday, after recording her 13th straight double-double during their clash against the Seattle Storm.

Parker, who retired earlier this year, previously set the league's record at 12 games during the 2009 and 2010 seasons while playing for the Los Angeles Sparks.

'I've had conversations with her, her family, her mom, I've talked to them before I even came to Chicago,' Reese went on. 

'I've always respected CP3 and I try to take some things from her game and try to add them to mine. And just being able to be named with an amazing player like that is always going to be special to me.'  

The virtual press conference was later interrupted by an unidentified reporter who was caught on a hot mic.

As one journalist was asking the LSU alum about breaking the double-double streak record, background noise caught an awkward conversation from someone else on the call.

'[Are we] ever going to have an intimate relationship?' a woman could be heard asking. 

A man's voice then cut in, 'Oh my, that's an uncomfortable topic.'

A confused Reese added, 'Excuse me?' before staff asked the reporter to repeat their question.

The man's voice then clarified, 'I never had any interest in being intimate with anyone,' as Reese covered her mouth in shock. 

'Oooo they finna get fired,' the 22-year-old jokingly added. 

Eventually, the issue was resolved and the reporter was able to ask the question again.  

Last weekend wasn't the first time Reese surpassed one of Parker's records.    

She previously became the first player in the history of the league to put up 10 consecutive double-doubles in a single season, surpassing the Hall of Famer's record nine in 2015. 

The impressive feat came less than 20 games into Reese's WNBA career, after she finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds during her team's 70-62 loss to the Minnesota Lynx earlier this month. 

'She knows what she does best,' Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon told reporters after the game. 

'The one thing about her is that she is incredibly hard on herself. As far as rebounding the ball, we knew that would translate over [from college]. And she's getting a better understanding of how to score around the rim. She's learning and she's learning fast.'
