Anthony Albanese is given a brutal reality check after boasting about his government's achievements in end-of-year video

Anthony Albanese has sparked outrage after gloating about the achievements of his government in the past year while millions of Aussies continue to struggle.

The Prime Minister had shared the video to social media platform X where Mr Albanese boasted about tackling the cost-of-living crisis and inflation.

The footage was accompanied by uplifting music with Mr Albanese signing off by saying he looked 'forward to delivering more in 2024'.

Matching positivity was hard to find in the reaction to the video on Twitter and Instagram with many noting the things Mr Albanese did not mention.

The failed Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum, immigration controversies and the fighting between Israel and Hamas were among the notable topics absent.

Others poured scorn on the Prime Minister's list of achievements saying they saw little evidence they were improving lives.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has given an upbeat end-of-year Christmas message where he lists his his government's accomplisments

To kick off his message Mr Albanese, wearing a light-coloured suit, addressed the camera with an expansive opening of the arms while sitting in relaxed fashion behind a desk as a background track of up-tempo feel-good keyboard music played.

'2023. The Matildas inspired a nation, Australians dominated Hollywood,' Mr Albanese said.

'Vegemite turned 100, it’s been a big year.'

Accompanying images showed the Australian women's soccer team during this year's World Cup, Australian actress Margot Robbie as Barbie in the Hollywood blockbuster of the same name and workers at a Vegemite factory.

'Even in the tough times we saw the best in Australia, bushfires and floods brought out the best in our community spirit and showed us the professionalism of our emergency services,' Mr Albanese continued.

'In tough times Australians stick together and this year has been especially tough for a lot of people.

'Global inflation is being felt here at home. Families are feeling pressure.'

Mr Albanese said his government's 'main focus had been on delivering cost of living relief while taking pressure off inflation'.

He then went onto to list a number of pieces of legislation passed this year.

These include spending $250million to provide more prescription medicines and lengthening scripts to 60, rather than 30, days, energy bill rebates, opening new free general healthcare clinics and seeing real wages increase for two quarters.

'There’s more to do and there are certainly big challenges ahead but we’ve got a big agenda for 2024,' Mr Albanese said.

Mr Albanese listed one of the year's highlights being 'Australians dominating Hollywood' (pictured Australian actress Margot Robbie as Barbie in the movie of the same name)

'More cost of living, strengthening Medicare, delivering more housing for Australia

'I am so grateful for the privilege I have of working for Australia and I look forward to delivering even more in 2024

'Can I wish you and your family all the very best for Christmas and the happiest of New Year's.'

On social media platform X, those commenting were not persuaded by Mr Albanese's glowing report card on his own government.

'How can we overlook your other 'stellar' accomplishment?' one person wrote while showing social media footage of a tent city that has sprung up besides the Brisbane River near the Queensland capital's centre of city.

'Setting a record for forcing so many working-class folks to live in tents due to the housing crisis. And I'm sure adding 600,000 migrants to the mix will just magically solve everything.'

Another person made their own list of memorable 'accomplishments'.

'1.5 million Australian children went hungry,' they wrote.

'Homelessness increased to levels never before seen. Half a billion dollars got p***ed up the wall.

'Australia is divided more than ever before. 4 premiers ran away. Alan Joyce shared a sausage with Albo. Toto got a plane ride.'

Instagram comments on Mr Albanese's video did not

The 'half billion dollars was a reference to the amount spent on the failed Voice referendum.

Others were also keen to remind the Prime Minister that a measure he campaigned hard for was overwhelmingly rejected by over 60 per cent of voters in October.

'Who can forget you calling No voters of the voice "Chicken little"!' another wrote.

'You’re the first to divide and name call Australians.'

On Instagram, the reactions were just as harsh.

'So where in Australia has all this happened?' one person skeptically asked.

'Because where I’m living we aren’t getting anything cheaper quite the opposite really.'

Another unleashed a lengthy tirade at Mr Albanese accusing him of 'tooting his own horn'.

'It's Christmas, some Australians are sleeping in tents, some have been made redundant at Christmas,' they wrote.

'Welfare doesn't cover basic costs of living due to inflation. You have hate groups operating in full force... and what are you doing about that?

'Taking a few pictures to show us how great your life is???

'Australians are furious.'

One noticed the Prime Minister was silent on immigration, an issue that has become a hot button after a High Court ruling allowing detainees with serious criminal records to be released leading to six allegedly re-offending.

A number of people in comments noted that Australians were being forced to live in tents near the middle of capital cities

'And let's not forget you let in over 600K and to top that you let a bunch of illegals with criminal records out into the public,' the person wrote.

A number of those commenting asked why Mr Albanese had not mentioned the fierce fighting in Gaza.

'Forgot to add weekly (pro-Palestinian) protests outside your electorate office,' one wrote.

'You know it would have been nice if you just acknowledged the global situation affecting people intensely.

'And you can even add the eventual vote to support the cease fire. Just acknowledge it mate, enough with the disassociation already.'

'Australia government sat silently as thousands of Palestinians children were murdered by Israel,' another said.

However, Mr Albanese did have at least unabashed fan who shared the Prime Minister's enthusiasm and optimistic perspective.

'Well done Labor, Albo, and team,' the Instagram comment read.

'Thank you for always making Australia better!!'
