A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend outside a gym on Wednesday 'didn't read' the AVO conditions imposed on him before breaching them by approaching her.
Anthony Monteleone appeared in Manly court on Sydney's northern beaches on Friday on charges of wounding with intent to murder and breaching an apprehended violence order.
Just over a week before the alleged attack, Monteleone, 45, admitted that he had breached a non-contact order made by police to protect the woman.
On April 29, he pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching an AVO after allegedly harassing the woman with multiple phone calls from several different numbers.
Monteleone told police he didn't know he was breaching the no-contact order because he 'didn't read the conditions'.

An agreed set of facts reveal that Monteleone and the woman had been in a relationship for about eight-weeks, which ended on April 18 when she caught him texting another woman.
The woman ordered Monteleone not to contact her again, the Daily Telegraph reported.
She contacted the police as she feared Monteleone might harm her and on April 20 a provisional order was made barring him from calling, texting or approaching her.
But four days later he started texting and calling her repeatedly over a period of about three days.
Among the voice messages Monteleone left were: 'Can you please talk to me, I won't bother you ever. Well I promise, I just want to speak to you. Can you call me back please? That's all I want. I just want to tell you a few things, please, I want no trouble please.'
Another message said: 'Please call me. I just want to have a quick chat with you. Please, that's all I'm asking. I've left you alone, I've done everything, please, honestly I just want to speak to you, I'd appreciate it.'
The woman decided to go to Burwood Police Station in Sydney's inner west on April 27, to report Monteleone's calls and texts, but didn't make it there as she thought she saw Monteleone's black Subaru following her and drove home.
On the way back, she called a friend, and asked her to come to her home as she was afraid of her former boyfriend.
Monteleone followed her back to her home address, documents state, and left his car to follow her to her home.

But the woman's friend arrived at the same time and Monteleone left.
The next day, he called the woman seven times in just 12 minutes, from several different numbers.
Monteleone appeared in Manly Local Court via a video-link from Surry Hills police station on Friday, wearing what appeared to be a hospital gown.
He had handed himself in to police on Thursday, nearly 24 hours after investigators allege he lay in wait for the woman outside Crunch Fitness, Alexandria before attacking her with a kitchen knife.
She was treated by paramedics for multiple stab wounds before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Monteleone only spoke to confirm he could hear as his lawyer told the court there would be no application for bail.
Magistrate Robyn Denes formally refused bail and Monteleone will remain in custody until the matter returns to court in July.

Ms Denes instructed the court registry to advise the State Parole Authority that Monteleone's intensive corrections order, which she placed him on in April, would be revoked.
He was to serve an 18-month sentence in the community, which required him to not commit any further offences and do a domestic abuse program as well as be subject to mandatory supervision.
