The Midshipmen were one yard away from tying the game against the Black Knights on Saturday's Army-Navy matchup at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. In the end, the Army secured the 17-11 win despite the Navy's late-game resurgence.
An attempt to push quarterback Tai Lavaita for a touchdown and force overtime was inches short as the Black Knights held their rivals right outside the goal line with three seconds remaining.
After entering the final quarter scoreless, the Navy found their footing and appeared to be on the verge of a comeback win. The Midshipmen needed a touchdown and a two-point conversion as while they trailed, 17-9, with a minute left in the game.
Unfortunately, the Navy's final efforts came to no avail after Lavaita failed to complete three of his game-winning attempts before resorting to the final push. Two of the passes were not caught by teammates while one was blocked by Army defensive back Max Didomenico.
The Army won their sixth Commander-in-Chief trophy in the last eight years and their 63rd game in the rivalry's history. Meanwhile, the Midshipmen trail with 54 wins through their meetings.

Despite losing the game, the Navy's last-ditch effort resulted in more passing and total yards
Quarterback Bryson Daily led the Army's efforts, completing seven out of 14 passes for 54 yards and a touchdown. Daily also paired his distribution with 84 rushing yards behind running back Kanye Udoh's 88.
The Army collectively recorded more rushing yards with 205 to the Navy's 130.
Meanwhile, the Midshipmen, in their losing effort, tripled the Black Knights' 54 passing yards with 179.
The Black Knights finished their season on a four-game win streak and 6-6 record. Saturday's win makes them eligible for their fourth consecutive bowl appearance under Jeff Monken.
On the other hand, the Navy, who have had a back-and-forth season finish their campaign with a 5-7 record.
