Arsenal have been given a boost regarding Martin Odegaard, with the midfielder likely to be fit for next weekend's game away to Brentford.

Odegaard struggled with a hip problem and then missed Arsenal's clash against Burnley after being hit in the face with a ball in training.

The Arsenal captain was subsequently left out of the Norway squad for games against Faroe Islands and Scotland so that he could build up his fitness at Arsenal.

Norway boss Stale Solbakken has now given an encouraging update on Odegaard's situation.

As reported by The Mirror, speaking at a press conference, Solbakken said: 'I've just come from a 45-minute talk with Martin. He is getting better and better and gradually stepping up.

Norway boss Stale Solbakken indicated that Odegaard will soon be back available

'It has been more or less three weeks without any special training, so it is important to take things step by step. Both he and Arsenal probably hope that he is available for the Brentford match.'

Arsenal will hope to have Odegaard available as they prepare for a hectic schedule.

So far this season Odegaard has played 15 times for Arsenal, during which he has scored five goals and provided one assist.

Odegaard missed the games against Newcastle and Sevilla because of concussion but is now closing in on a return to action.

Arsenal are currently without Thomas Partey due to a thigh problem, while Fabio Vieira will be suspended after his red card against Burnley. Emile Smith Rowe is sidelined with a knee injury.

Mikel Arteta's side are in third place in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Manchester City.
