Arsenal have been handed a slight boost in their hopes of progressing to the Champions League semi-finals, with one Bayern Munich forward ruled out of the return leg.

The Gunners head to Bavaria and the Allianz Arena on the back of a 2-2 draw at home, with Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane netting for the visitors in between strikes for Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard.

However it was perhaps two controversial moments concerning penalties that dominated the discourse in the fallout from the game.

Both sides felt they should have been awarded spot-kicks, with Saka colliding with Manuel Neuer late in the game, while Gabriel Magalhaes was seen handling the ball after a goal kick in the 66th minute in a bizarre moment in the clash.

However, neither was given, and the tie is balanced delicately on a knife edge - though Bayern will have to do without one of their most important players in the return leg now.

One of Bayern Munich's key forwards from the 2-2 draw has been ruled out with a hamstring strain

Bayern Munich have confirmed that former Arsenal forward Gnabry will be out with a hamstring strain suffered in the first leg.

'FC Bayern must do without Serge Gnabry for the time being,' the club's statement read.

'The winger suffered a muscle strain in his left hamstring in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-final first leg, as confirmed by a scan by the FC Bayern medical department.'

While the club did not confirm how long he would be out of action for, German outlet Bild have reported that he will be missing for three weeks.

Gnabry was one of his side's more potent threats in the first hour of the encounter, the pace and dribbling of both him and Leroy Sane on the other flank tearing through the Gunners' defence.

However he was substituted on 70 minutes after receiving some treatment, seemingly for the hamstring problem that has left him out on the sidelines.

Bayern will therefore be missing one of their key stars for the weekend clash with FC Koln as they bid to pull off a miracle to retain their Bundesliga crown, which Bayer Leverkusen are now one win away from ensuring leaves Bavaria for the first time since 2012-13.
