Arsenal have reportedly targeted RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko with Mikel Arteta aiming to add firepower to his squad this summer.

A top class striker has been identified as a priority by Arsenal this summer, despite the Gunners being the second highest scorers in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal's desire for a striker was further highlighted by the Gunners drawing a blank against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich in their last two matches.

Arteta's side were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa in a blow to their Premier League hopes, while a 1-0 loss to Bayern saw Arsenal exit the Champions League on Wednesday.

According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal have been scouting Sesko ahead of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have reportedly targeted RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko for a summer move

Mikel Arteta is expected to strengthen his squad this summer by moving for a centre forward

The 20-year-old forward has scored 13 goals in 27 matches for RB Leipzig this season having made 13 starts in his debut season in the Bundesliga.

Sesko, who is 6ft 4in, has scored six goals in his last 11 Bundesliga matches after forcing his way into the starting eleven in the second half of the season.

Arsenal will reportedly face competition from Chelsea and Man United for the forward, who has a €50million (£42.7m) release clause this summer.

Sesko's representatives have reportedly been guests of both Premier League clubs this season.

The Slovenian international has earned comparisons to Man City star Erling Haaland having followed his path from RB Salzburg to RB Leipzig.

Sesko played down comparisons to Haaland when he joined the Bundesliga side last summer for a reported €20m (£17m) last summer.

Personally, I don’t think much of comparisons,' Sesko said after signing for RB Leipzig.

'Erling is an absolutely world-class striker. I enjoy watching his games on TV and obviously pay attention to what he does in different situations in the game, but as I’ve already said: I am a completely different type of player.'

Sesko has scored 13 goals for RB Leipzig since moving to the Bundesliga side last summer

Sesko, who previously highlighted his ability to play as a target man, has admitted idolising Zlatan Ibrahimovic since he was a child.

The forward scored 29 goals in 79 matches for RB Salzburg before moving to the Bundesliga last summer.

The forward has also scored 11 goals in 28 matches for the Slovenian national team, including five in qualifying for Euro 2024.

Sesko is expected to be a key player for Slovenia this summer when they face England, Denmark and Serbia in the group stage in Germany.
