Australian Skye Nicolson is a world champion after the undisputed, seven-division champion Amanda Serrano vacated her title.
Nicolson, formerly the WBC interim featherweight champion, has been campaigning for a date with the all-conquering Serrano following her dominant win over Lucy Wildheart in Dublin last month.
However, a unification bout won't come to pass after Serrano relinquished her belt due to the WBC's refusal to allow women boxers to fight three-minute rounds and 12-round title fights.
It means that Nicolson has now been promoted to undisputed WBC champion.
In a statement on Instagram, Serrano said: 'I love boxing.
Skye Nicolson is Australia's latest world champion following dramatic twist
Nicolson had hoped to take on undisputed champion Amanda Serrano after her recent win
But Serrano has vacated her belt in a row over equality in women's boxing
'I am the first undisputed female champion to fight 12x3 minute rounds. Moving forward if a sanctioning body doesn't want to give me and my fellow fighters the choice to fight the same as the men, then I will not be fighting for that sanctioning body.
'The WBC has refused to evolve the sport for equality. So I am relinquishing their title.
'Thank You to the sanctioning bodies who have evolved for Equality!'
In an apparent message to Nicolson, she added: 'If you want to face me in the ring, you have a choice. I've made mine.'
