An assistant college football coach was misidentified as former NFL star Vince Young during an awkward Golf Channel interview on Thursday.
Young, the former No. 3 overall pick by the Titans and the 2006 NCAA national champion at Texas, is participating at the BMW Charity Pro-Am in South Carolina.
Naturally, the Golf Channel's Lauren Withrow wanted to speak to the ex-NFL player, but instead interviewed Citadel assistant Everette Sands by mistake.
In a live segment, Withrow began listing Young's accomplishments to tee up a question, before Sands graciously told her he wasn't the Texas legend.
'Now, I apologize, you have the wrong person,' he said, before identifying himself.
Citadel football assistant Everette Sands was mistakenly interviewed on the Golf Channel
The reporter had intended to interview Vince Young (left), a former NFL QB with the Titans. Sands is seen in his Citadel headshot on the right.
He continued, 'the great thing about golf is I'm not only competing against myself but I'm competing against everybody else.'
Withrow then asked one more question before concluding the interview.
Unfortunately for her, the mistake went viral on X, with 2.7million views on X as of writing.
Even Fox Sports analyst and former NFL player Emmanuel Acho weighed in.
'There is no way…. Absolutely, no way, they thought this man, Everette Sands, was my guy, Vince Young,' he wrote on X. with a picture of Sands' Citadel coaching headshot.
Nonetheless, Sands was a great sport about the situation, as he would later write about it on X.
Withrow acknowledged her mistake afterwards on her Instagram page, writing 'up from here!'
'Had a great time at @BMWProAm today. I even got interviewed after one of the holes today!!!,' he said.
Afterwards, as spotted by Awful Announcing, Withrow seemed to acknowledge the gaffe on Instagram.
'Learn from the mistakes,' she wrote on her story, while also adding, 'up from here!!!'
Young, 41, last played in the NFL in the 2011 season.
