A tourist has turned heads while walking down the street in Bali looking like an 'Egyptian mummy' - but there's a serious explanation.

Wearing a black shirt and shorts with matching sandals, the wounded man was filmed walking gingerly past shops in Canggu sporting bandages on his face, arms and hands, knees, legs and both feet.

The startling video titled ' No filter Bali kiss Canggu tattoos' has since gone viral after it was posted on social media.

'Wow. Next-level scooter accident,' a man explained in the clip.

'Bali kiss next-level. The mummy. Luckily, still in one piece. Unbelievable!'

'Bali kiss' is the term given when a tourist falls off their scooter or motorbike on the holiday island.

The tourist (pictured) was captured walking carefully in Canggu in Bali sporting multiple bandages

The clip sparked a diverse range of viewer reactions from horror to amusement.

'If you've been to Bali, this is funny, because you see a bunch of white people with bandages all over and you know it's from scooter accidents,' one commented.

Another quipped: 'That's more than a kiss that's at least second base.'

'Think he was actually on his way to audition for the new Mummy movie,' one said.

Others were quick to slam tourists' 'dumb' antics, with many saying visitors to  Thailand were also often seen covered in bandages from similar accidents.

Riding a scooter or motorbike in Bali can be chaotic and tourists are advised to be careful and to always wear a helmet

'Mummy season I call that in Thailand,' one wrote.

'The way I see foreigners fly around here it's never going to end well!' a Bali resident wrote.

Another wrote: 'They (tourists) never in their life drove a bike, but think, cause it's Asia, they can handle it. I see every day so many accidents… please take care.'

But the original author of the video later explained he has since been in touch with the tourist who told him what actually happened.

'It was an accident, his phone fell from the bike and instinctively he went for it and lost control, nothing dangerous or stupid he just went straight to the asphalt and got a lot of brushes [sic],' he wrote.

'We agree together that the video is funny and doesn't hurt anyone feelings (luckily not having more serious consequences than just a body full of bandages).

'Perhaps is a funny way to remind to people how dangerous can be driving a bike and always be very very very careful with 100 eyes on the street.'

The poster of the video said he had been in touch with the tourist and explained that he was not being reckless on his scooter - his phone fell from the bike and when he instinctively went to get it, he crashed

Many tourists appreciated the reminder to be careful when hiring scooters on the island.

'Good you posted this to remind others to be careful. I'd rather not hop on a bike in Bali. Specially when it's normal to bump elbows and shins in Kuta traffic,' one wrote.

Others were stunned that the tourist was still in one piece after the mishap.

'Glad it's just a few bandages. Could have been so much worse. Hope he heals well,' another commented.
