The Milwaukee Brewers are reportedly set to sign highly-rated outfield prospect Jackson Chourio to the biggest rookie contract in MLB history today.

According to the New York Post, the 19-year-old is set to agree terms on a mammoth eight-year contract worth almost $80million.

That would mean Chourio would smash the current record for the biggest deal given to a player yet to play in MLB.

That is currently held by White Sox outfielder Luis Robert, who signed a six-year deal worth $50m with Chicago in 2020.

Chourio only reached Triple-A level earlier this year and played in six games but now he's set to join the Brewers' MLB roster next season.

The No.3 prospect in baseball will join the Brewers' main roster at a time of huge transformation for the club.

They won the National League Central last season but were beaten by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the Wild Card Series - the fourth consecutive playoff run without a series victory.

Long-time general manager David Stearns left and was announced as the Mets' new president of baseball operations in October.

Then manager Craig Counsell decided to leave the Brewers for their division-rival Cubs.

After spending the last eight seasons as Counsell's bench coach, Pat Murphy has now taken over as manager.

Counsell set a Brewers record for career managerial wins and led the franchise to its longest run of sustained success, including four playoff berths over the last six seasons.

Counsell took over as the Brewers manager when Ron Roenicke was fired in 2015. He hired Murphy as his bench coach following that 2015 season.

The Brewers also find themselves at a crossroads because of the contract status of several key players.

They non-tendered All-Star Brandon Woodruff after having shoulder surgery that could mean he misses the entire 2024 season.

They may also have to cut ties with All-Star pitcher Corbin Burnes and shortstop Willy Adames, who could become free agents after the 2024 season.
