A BBC presenter has revealed why he missed his usual radio programme after he was rushed to hospital following a 'terrifying' accident at home.
Radio listeners tuning into BBC Radio Ulster on Friday morning were not greeted by the voice of the show's usual host Stephen Nolan but that of Chris Buckler - who was standing in for Mr Nolan.
Mr Nolan, who in 2023 took home an eye-watering salary of £400,000, rang into the show to explain to viewers the reason for his absence.
He said: 'I was trying to move 10 boxes of tiles that were standing against the cupboard and I didn't realise how heavy tiles were so they all landed on my big toe.'
The injured presenter added: 'I am still alive!'

His stand-in host jokingly replied: 'There is a little bit of kind of reluctance to believe any of this inside your team this morning because they don't believe for a second that you actually do anything like physical manual labour.'
'You basically employ people to move things… so what have you been doing? Have you run out of men?'
Mr Nolan went on to reveal that he waited in A&E for six hours on Thursday night following the accident.
He added: 'It was terrifying, it really, really was.'
In a gruesome picture shared on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Nolan showed the damage to his big toe which was bloody and had a nasty gash.
He added in a separate post on X: 'Today hasn't been good. Massive pile of floor tiles which are not fitted yet standing up in boxes – I under estimated their weight & pulled them towards me to open a drawer they were leaning against.

Fans rushed to show their support for the popular Northern Irish presenter. One wrote: 'Looks nasty, hope all is ok.'
Another said: 'How painful it looks! I hope it will not affect your airing of the Nolan Show.'
In 2023, Mr Nolan was the BBC's fifth highest paid broadcaster ahead of other famous faces including Question Time host Fiona Bruce and BBC News presenter Sophie Raworth.
