Belmore Falls, death: Heartbreak as female bushwalker, 20, is found dead three days after plunging off a cliff

A woman's body has been found three days after a bushwalker fell off a cliff near a popular waterfall.

The woman was hiking at Belmore Falls in Robertson, in the NSW Southern Highlands, when she slipped and plunged almost 100m into the water below on Sunday about 1pm. 

Police and paramedics were called to the area and emergency crews began to search for the 20-year-old, however she could not be found.

But police divers on Tuesday believe the body recovered at 11.30am is that of the missing woman.

The woman's body is yet to be formally identified.

SES Volunteers and Police Rescue officers were seen scouring bushland on Sunday.

A PolAir helicopter was also deployed to assist the search. 

Crews from several agencies including the SES and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, were also involved in the search and rescue mission. 

However the search was called off late on Sunday due to bad light before it resumed on Monday morning. 

The woman could not be found by Monday night and the search was called of again, until it resumed Tuesday.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Belmore Falls will remain closed until Wednesday to help emergency crews.
