Fans of a beloved CBS Boston news anchor are expressing outrage after she disappeared from the air with no explanation.

Kate Merrill has left WBZ-TV’s morning show after more than 20 years at the company, as reported by the Boston Globe

She was last on air in mid-May, but there was no announcement by the station until this week.

'Kate has decided to move on from WBZ,' the outlet said in a statement on Monday.

'Thanks for the inquiry. We value our loyal viewers.'

Merrill herself has not spoken about her departure, only posting a picture with former anchor Diane King Hall on June 1 and writing: 'When work friends become family - it’s good for the soul.'

She added: 'Love you DKH and miss laughing with you every morning on TV.'

Merrill's fans have been left with questions after the station offered no explanation for her departure, taking online to demand answers.

One fan wrote: 'You're missed in the morning. Hopefully there will be announcement about what's happened.'

Another said: 'I’m wondering what happened? It was such an abrupt departure- I thought you were on vacation!'

A third added: 'Miss you. Love your smile. I stopped watching channel 4 . They definitely made a huge mistake.'

WBZ-TV’s viewers also mentioned the recent departures of other fan-favorite morning anchor Liam Martin and meteorologist Zack Green.

Martin wrote an essay for Boston Magazine in March explaining the mental health issues he faced on the early morning job.

The station did not elaborate on Green's departure last September.

However, the Boston Globe reported it was Merrill who decided to leave her longtime job at the company.

One of the comments on Merrill's last post read: 'I've been watching you on the morning show for years now and I vowed that after Zack and Liam were no longer a part of the show that if they ever let you go, I would stop watching CBS Boston.

Merrill has won multiple Emmys with WBZ since she started her role there in 2004

'I guess today is the day. Wishing you the best of luck in what ever you do next-you are missed.'

Another said: 'That station in going down the tubes.. started with Zack then Liam now Kate … buh bye WBZ'

Merrill has won multiple Emmys with WBZ since she started her role there in 2004.

Her bio on the outlet's website read: 'She has covered every big story in Boston, from the 2013 Marathon bombings, and the 2004 Democratic National Convention, to the 2004 Red Sox World Series win and several Patriots Super Bowls, live from the field.

DailyMail.com has reached out to Merrill for comment on this story.
