Bill Belichick has been savagely trolled by his own son, Steve, at his unveiling as the University of Washington's new defensive coordinator, reminding his father of his unemployment.

Steve, who worked alongside his father for 12 years on the New England Patriots, was introduced to the Huskies faithful on Wednesday.

When asked about the distinctions between himself and his six-time Super Bowl-winning father, the 37-year-old Steve answered: 'We definitely have similarities...

'I've got a job and he doesn't.'

Reporters at the mid-week press conference couldn't help but to laugh, as Steve added: 'He knows that.

The younger Belichick roasted his 71-year-old dad after finding work following his Patriots exit

'I look up to my dad. He mentored me. But I'm myself,' Steve then pointed out. 'I'm excited to get out on the field and work with these guys and work with the kids and recruit the kids and just kind of be myself.'

Before parting ways professionally with his father, Steve was a defensive assistant on the Patriots staff from 2012 to 2015, before coaching the team's safeties for two years and then the defensive backs for a single season (2019). He was also the offensive linebackers coach for the last three years.

But after his father's exit from the team was announced back at the end of this past season, uncertainty around Steve's future in New England arose.

It turns out that things worked out for the young coach, as he was hired onto the staff at Washington under new head coach Jedd Fisch, who joined the Huskies after being in charge of the Arizona Wildcats for the past three seasons

The two even previously worked together on the Patriots staff in 2020 when Fisch severed as quarterbacks coach.

Bill Belichick's departure from the Patriots occurred after the legendary NFL head coach spent 24 years as the main man in New England, serving as the franchise's de-facto general manager, too.

'I'll always be a Patriot,' the 72-year-old Belichick said at his last press conference. 'I look forward to coming back here, but at this time we are going to move on, I look forward and am excited to the future, but always very, very appreciate of the opportunity, the support, and, Robert [Kraft], what you've done for me.'

The elder Belichick was in high-demand at the start of this NFL offseason, but for various reasons, he hasn't landed his next job in the league after registered interest from the Atlanta Falcons, L.A. Chargers, and the Dallas Cowboys.

He is also being pursued for a potential broadcasting opportunity for some of the country's most popular sports channels.
