Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick issued a stark warning about the Pittsburgh Steelers offense.

The longtime coach of Tom Brady however claims Russell Wilson will not be the problem for the team, and he much prefers the 35-year-old to backup Justin Fields.

Belichick said Fields turns the ball over more than Wilson does, and Wilson is one of the best 'downfield throwers' in the NFL.

'I think they have bigger problems than at the quarterback position. ... The offensive line had a hard time being consistent there,' Belichick said on 'The Pat McAfee Show'.

'They lost the tackles … They have a rookie center, and the guards, they’ve had some issues too in the preseason games,' Belichick continued.

Russell Wilson has not had the easiest start to his Pittsburgh Steelers career at age 35

Belichick believes Wilson is not the biggest problem in Pittsburgh despite the turbulence

'They need to get the running game going, they have good backs, they need to get those backs started,' Belichick added. 'Russell’s good out of the pocket. But I think the problems are bigger than Russell Wilson. I think it’s really offensive line and the running game.'

Wilson is in his first season with the Steelers after two seasons with the Denver Broncos, where he massively underperformed compared to expectations.

Fields is also in his first season in Pittsburgh after three seasons as the Chicago Bears starting quarterback.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has made clear Wilson is the starter despite neither quarterback impressing in the preseason thus far.

Najee Harris is slated to be Pittsburgh's starting running back after an up-and-down NFL career thus far.

To pair with Wilson, Pittsburgh brought in Arthur Smith, who was the Falcons head coach for the last three seasons, to be the offensive coordinator. Belichick does believe Smith is a 'good fit' for the team and Wilson.
