Buffalo Bills star Shaq Lawson has apologized for shoving a Philadelphia Eagles fan who allegedly made death threats against him and other Bills players.

Following Buffalo's 37-34 overtime defeat by Philadelphia on Sunday, footage emerged on social media of Lawson and others Bills defenders confronting the fan on the sidelines during the game.

'Those of you who know me know that I'm all about the fans, and I have a lot of respect for the game I play and my opponents,' the defensive end wrote on Instagram on Monday before setting his account to private.

'Before the game started yesterday, there was a fan behind our bench, who was making life threatening remarks towards us and our families. We asked Philadelphia security to remove the fan, but he was allowed to stay for the entire game.

'Eventually, our emotions boiled over, and I made a mistake. For that, I apologize, but there are certain lines that should not be crossed.'

Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips was first seen squaring up to the fan as tempers flared during a tense overtime thriller in Philadelphia. The Bills suffered an agonizing defeat at Lincoln Financial Field, where Jalen Hurts sealed a 37-34 win for the Eagles after Jake Elliott tied the game with 20 seconds remaining.

Before Hurts went on to score the winning touchdown, a number of Bills players walked over to the stands to confront an Eagles fan who appeared to be goading them during the game.

In a clip which has gone viral on social media, Phillips makes a beeline for the supporter and gets in their face after seemingly taking offence to something they said.

He is then backed up by several of his Buffalo teammates, including Lawson - who at one stage shoves the fan before walking away.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott also commented on the incident during his regularly scheduled press conference when he said: 'Yeah, obviously a very unfortunate situation.'

Footage emerged of multiple Buffalo players confronting the fan, before Lawson pushed them

'It's unfortunate that that would go on during a game in particular. And what I'm aware of is that people were asked to have the fan removed and nothing was done. So, at the end of the day, that's not for us to concern ourselves with at this point. It's just unfortunate overall that that would be taking place during a game.'

Phillips also took to Instagram to accuse the fan of making death threats.

'I love the crowd I love rowdy fans it makes the game fun,' Phillips wrote on Instagram on Monday. 'But one thing I'm not going to tolerate is someone threatening me or my family. This is a line that shouldn't be crossed.'
