A three-year-old Queens boy was left to die on a commercial highway after a driver pulled out of a parking lot outside a Dunkin Donuts, hit the child and then drove away.

The boy was in the area crossing the middle of the street in front of a Dunkin Donuts on College Point Boulevard in Flushing at around 6:41 p.m.

Police told DailyMail.com that the driver was pulling away from their parking spot when it struck the three-year-old. 

The driver was in a white, four-door sedan and drove away from the scene, continuing south on College Point Boulevard.  

The child, who was unidentified, was left to die in the street until someone eventually called the authorities.

The boy was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital in Flushing, but he was later declared dead. 

According to PIX11News, there are plenty of surveillance cameras in the area as officials look for the driver. 

Detectives were on the scene for about three hours on Wednesday night.

DailyMail.com cameras captured NYPD Highway Patrol officers doing a survey of the scene of the tragedy. 

No arrests have been made at this time, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

The investigation is ongoing. 

Crime is down just under one percent in New York City in 2023, with murders down 11.6 percent.

However, the numbers remain staggeringly high when compared to the crime levels in recent years.

Overall crime is up 26 percent from 2021 and 19 percent from the same period in 2010, according to the city's own statistics.
