Gabriel Jesus returns for Arsenal!

The Brazilian hasn't played for Arsenal since he scored during their 2-0 Champions League victory against Sevilla at the start of November.

He hobbled off the pitch with a hamstring injury during that game and has been working to recover from that injury since.

But he played 90 minutes for Brazil during their 1-0 defeat against Argentina in midweek - after he defied Arsenal's wishes to join up with his international side.

Brazil had risked infuriating the Gunners boss who had hoped that Jesus would not play for the Selecao, with Arsenal hoping to ease him back into football after the soft tissue injury.

But he'll make his Arsenal return tonight, despite having admitted after failing to score for Brazil that scoring goals wasn't his strongest suit.

'Scoring goals is inevitable (but) it is not my strongest suit,' he told reporters.

'I play to score a goal, that's why I'm in the national team. Scoring goals (again) will happen naturally.'

Brentford’s record against London rivals

Thomas Frank’s side boast a pretty impressive record against their London rivals, having gone unbeaten in 14 derbies in the Premier League since their 3-0 loss to Arsenal in September 2022.

A win today will see the Bees claim their third consecutive home victory in the Premier League, their last defeat in the league at home came against Everton in September.

Despite that they’ve dropped 11 points from winning positions during the campaign. Scoring early will be key for Brentford today but they’ll need to be solid at the back to control Arsenal’s attack.

Brentford's starting XI

Couple of changes for the Bees too! Onyenka is back in the side with Yarmoliuk also returning.

Ghoddos will come back into the fold, with Roerslev, Collins and Jensen all omitted.

Arsenal team to play Brentford

A slight reshuffle for Arsenal following the team that beat Burnley 3-1 before the international break.

Jesus returns up top with Trossard, who scored in their last outing dropping to midfield in place of Jorginho.

Odegaard also returns in place of Kai Havertz, with Ramsdale returning between the sticks.

Team news coming up!

And Brentford are in the house!

And what about Ivan Toney’s future in west London?

Ivan toney has been the focus of much transfer speculation in the last two weeks.

The striker is still serving eight-month ban for gambling offences.

Yet, many clubs, including Arsenal are eyeing up a swoop for the Bees’ star during the upcoming January transfer window.

But it seems the Englishman is still ‘torn over his future’ amid interest from Chelsea, too…

Could Gabriel Jesus feature today?

Brazil risked infuriating the Arsenal boss earlier in the week as they opted to play Jesus during their 1-0 defeat by Argentina.

It comes as Jesus played his first game since October 24, where he suffered a soft tissue injury in Arsenal’s Champions League victory against Sevilla.

Gunners’ manager Mikel Arteta had been vocal about his willingness not to risk bringing the striker back too early, with Jesus having missed several games at the start of the season with a separate injury.

Yet he was called up to the Brazil squad, with Arsenal left sweating over his fitness.

With Jesus having played 90 minutes in midweek, could we see him make his return this afternoon for Arsenal?

Aaron Ramsdale back for Arsenal?

David Raya has usurped Aaron Ramsdale this season as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper.

While Ramsdale started the season as the favourite, playing in their opening four Premier League matches, he’s failed to start in a league game since the Gunners’ 1-0 win against Everton on September 17.

With Raya unavailable to play today against his parent club, Arteta confirmed Ramsdale will return to the squad to play against Brentford.

It’ll be a good chance to showcase what he can do in goal to his manager, who was asked if there was any expectation on Ramsdale ahead of Saturday afternoon’s clash.

Arteta said in his pre-match press conference: ‘My job is to try and help people in the very best possible way every day to make him better and give them the best possible chance to fulfil the potential in their career and get to the highest possible position.

‘There is no expectation with any player.’

The Gunners are in the house!

Team news is coming up in just over 20 minutes time and Arsenal have arrived at the GTech Community stadium.

Aaron Ramsdale will start today for the Gunners, with David Raya unable to play against his parent club.

How important will this game be for Ramsdale today?

Last time out…

Brentford suffered their fourth defeat of the Premier League season last time out against Liverpool.

The Bee’s were outclassed at Anfield by Jurgen Klopp’s side losing 3-0, but did trouble the Reds on the counter.

Had Thomas Frank’s side put their chances away, the outcome may have been very different with Brian Mbuemo having several chances during the game.

Brentford did look good on the break too and will want to utilise their fast attack this afternoon against Mikel Arteta’s side.

Good Afternoon!

Welcome to Mail Sport’s live coverage of Brentford’s Premier League clash against Arsenal at the GTech Community Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side are looking to claim three points this afternoon and go top of the Premier League table after nothing could separate Liverpool and Manchester City earlier today, who played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

Plenty of news from within the Arsenal squad ahead of today’s clash, with Mikel Arteta suggesting Aaron Ramsdale could make his return to the Premier League after having been usurped from the first choice goalkeeper’s spot by David Raya today.

Meanwhile, Thomas Frank’s side come into this clash off the back of a 3-0 defeat by Liverpool.

The Dane will be hoping to get a result today to help them undo that defeat with the Bees having amassed a record of four wins, four defeats and four losses so far this season.

Stay with us as we’ll have all the latest news commentary and live updates from this afternoon’s Premier League clash. It's been a beautiful day in south west London today with the conditions perfect for a fast game of football.

Kick off is scheduled for 5.30pm.
