Broadmeadows, Melbourne: Gunman on the run after man was shot

A gunman is on the loose in Melbourne's north after a young man was shot while reportedly trying to run down a group of people.

Emergency services were called to a house in Meadow Heights before 7pm on Monday after a 20-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his torso.

He was rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Police are now investigating whether a shooting at nearby Broadmeadows is linked. 

The 20-year-old shooting victim reportedly became caught in a dispute with a group of young people in Broadmeadows.

Witnesses claim he smashed his car through a fence at a house where the group was before he tried to run them down, the Herald Sun reported.

It's understood that is when the man was shot. He is then believed to have driven himself to the home in Meadow Heights.

A witness said the group of people appeared to be aged between 18 and 23.
