Former Celtic captain Scott Brown has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at Todd Cantwell for continually doing his talking on social media rather than on the pitch.

Last week the Rangers midfielder marked his goal in the 3-3 draw with Hearts by posting a celebration picture and a caption which read: ‘Shushburger please’ accompanied by a laughing face emoji.

After being reminded by supporters of the Ibrox club that he still had a Scottish Cup final to play in, the Englishman deleted the original message before posting it again without the caption.

This was referenced by several Celtic players after their dramatic win over Rangers at Hampden completed the league and cup double.

Left-back Greg Taylor’s Instagram account featured a picture of Celtic celebrating with the trophy. Team-mate Alistair Johnston replied, asking Taylor if he would be ‘eating a burger tonight wee man???

Johnston’s remark was ‘liked’ by team-mates including Taylor and Saturday’s matchwinner Adam Idah.

Brown, above, made a thinly-veiled reference to Todd Cantwell and his use of social media

In a clear reference to Cantwell, Brown claimed that his old team-mates had an extra edge going into the final because of the extra ammunition the former Norwich City man gave them.

‘There’s a lot of people talk in the press and talk on social media, and do all their TikToks and YouTube stuff or whatever it is,’ said Brown, now manager of Ayr United.

‘The good thing about our club (Celtic) is that they do their talking on the park, and they continue to do that.

‘It’s not about outside, it’s about the focus that is inside the football club and the mentality to keep going day to day.’

Taylor also felt Cantwell’s conduct on the park was poor after a tangle between the pair in the second half, saying: ‘He said a few things that I didn’t like.’
