A footy-tipping dog that has gone viral for predicting the results of NRL matches has chosen which team will win Wednesday night's State of Origin decider - and it's not good news for Maroons fans.

Named Gnocchi, the bulldog has become known for her ability to pick winners on the Cast Patrol podcast, where she's seen choosing between two balloons in team colours to make her forecasts.

For example, she correctly picked four out five of the matches in round 19 of the NRL last week.

On Wednesday morning she joined Adrian, Mick and Jimmy from the podcast on Channel Nine's Today show, with host and noted Queensland fanatic Karl Stefanovic nervously awaiting the outcome.

After seeing footage of Gnocchi correctly predicting that NSW would win game two of the series with Mitchell Moses being named man of the match, Stefanovic remarked, 'I'm feeling a rort coming on here.'

Mick - who is Gnocchi's owner - then explained that the bulldog's talent was discovered when he needed help while coming last in a footy tipping competition and she predicted seven out of the eight games that week.

The trio - who all appear to be NSW fans - then explained that they started using food as a lure to get her to make her choices, but were warned off for health reasons and switched to balloons because Gnocchi 'goes fanatic' for them.

Mick then blew up blue and maroon balloons in front of a very excited Gnocchi, before placing them on the ground in front of her accompanied by the logos of the NSW and Queensland Origin teams while Adrian stopped her from running over.

When Gnocchi was released, it looked for a second like she'd choose the Maroons before making a sudden turn and picking the Blues.

Stefanovic hammed it up, pretending to be devastated while Nine sport presenter Alex Cullen and Brooke Boney celebrated wildly with the Cast Patrol members.

'It's alright, Carlos. Are you OK?' co-host Sarah Abo asked.

'What a stupid idea for a segment,' Stefanovic replied.

Most bookies disagree with Gnocchi's predictions, making Queensland the favourites to win the series for the third year in a row.

NSW haven't won a series decider in Brisbane since 2005 - and have only done so once before then, when they beat the Cane Toads 27-12 in 1994.
