A school board member in California who claimed to be the 'Messiah' has been detained for a mental health evaluation after making concerning threats.

Jason Vassar, who is a local school board trustee in Tuolumne County, made a series of chilling threats, according to court filings seen by The Union Democrat.

The 50-year-old allegedly mentioned killing children as well as being the executioner for God and made racist and anti-government comments. Although he did not threaten any specific person.

Court filings include 'manifestos' which were allegedly written by Vassar and titled 'Homework'. He is said to have submitted them to Belleview Elementary School Superintendent-Principal Carmel Portillo minutes after he left a meeting on October 30.

It prompted school officials to get a restraining order against him and start the process of removing him from his role.

Portillo called a meeting with Vassar on October 30 to 'discuss school board business and inquire as to his mental health'.

But he allegedly declared himself to be 'the messiah chosen by God' to bring the end of the world.

The court documents state that Vassar later sent emails with 93 pages of comments to the principal and another administrator on topics including the coronavirus pandemic, the Antichrist and made other biblical references.

'I was kind of shocked to read in Revelations that I was going to be executioner for God and kill your children,' he allegedly wrote.

'I’m going to tear this planet apart starting with my home town, Sonora.

'I’m going to kill these communists or socialists or whatever the f*** these cultists think they are. You are s*** on my boot that I am washing off, again.

'If anyone threatens my children, I will kill them in the most gruesome way I can think of, including corrupt government agencies that have illegally been f***ing with me because they think no one would ever set up the FBI with a sting.'

The school then filed for a temporary restraining order which stated that Vassar’s writings exhibited paranoia that could make him 'easily believe' that attempts to restrain his presence at school are a 'covert plot against him'.

He is required to stay at least 1,000 feet away from the campus, students and staff as well as the county Superintendent of Schools Office facilities, staff and students.

Vassar also has to surrender his firearms to the police. He allegedly left a voicemail to a staff member at 11.30pm on November 4 following the restraining order in which he said: 'f*** you… I hope you win the lottery and die the next day.'

A letter was sent to staff and parents on November 6 about the situation surrounding Vassar.

He was detained on a 72-hour psychiatric hold under code section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code, according to the filing.

An updated letter to staff and families on November 13 said the Sheriff's Office confirmed Vassar was still detained and being monitored.

It also mentioned there will be a court hearing on November 28 over the possibility of a permanent injunction.

Superintendent-Principal Portillo confirmed the district has started the process to have Vassar removed from the school board through the Attorney General’s Office.
