The body of a fisherman is believed to have been found in a remote fishing spot after days of desperate attempts to find the missing man.

Police and State Emergency Service personnel are attempting to recover the body from an 'an extremely difficult position within a rock formation' off the coast of Cape Arid, about 150km east of Esperance in Western Australia.

The 36-year-old slipped off of rocks while fishing near the mouth of the Thomas River with a relative about 2pm on Saturday, sparking a major search effort.

Boats, jet-skis and aircraft scoured through the water and coastline on Sunday before being suspended 'pending new information'.

WA Police confirmed the family of the fisherman have been notified.

The national parkland is littered with camping grounds and even more fishing spots along the expansive coastline.

Species of salmon, skippy, herring, sand whiting and shark can all be found in the waters off Cape Aries which is also a popular area to spot migrating whales.

One of the more 'scenic' picnic spots in the park is by the Thomas River, where the fisherman vanished from, according to Tourism Western Australia.

The state's promoter also lists the spot as one of the two 'good camping facilities' in Cape Arid.

More to come.
