This is the shocking moment a sanitation worker stopped two suspects from carjacking a resident outside a home in Argentina.

Walter Messa, who is in his 50s, has been hailed a hero after he foiled the perpetrators' robbery attempt in the Buenos Aires town of San Isidro on Saturday.

A surveillance video, which was released to the public by a neighbor, showed the victim stepping out of his Volkswagen Golf to open his garage gate. But as soon as he walked into his residence, two suspects rushed over to steal the vehicle.

One of the assailants could be seen brandishing what appeared to be a gun as he was about to sit in the driver's seat while his accomplice waited on the passenger's seat to pull off the escape.

Messa, who was on-duty, suddenly charged at the gun-toting suspect and beat him with his broomstick - dishing them with some instant karma.

Walter Messa foiled a carjacking attempt in San Isidro, a town in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires on Saturday. Messa, who is employed by the city's sanitation department, saw two suspects trying to steal a neighbors car when he attacked one of the assailants with his broomstick and sent them running away

Subsequently, the carjacker on the passenger's seat ran out carrying the car owner's belongings and was abruptly run over by a motorist, who had their car in reverse just seconds after he had driven by.

Messa told a bevy of Argentine reporters that he initially thought he was witnessing a fight between residents before realizing that they were trying to steal the homeowner's car.

One of the suspects even threatened to shoot him, but he didn't think twice about backing down.

'I acted there, I did what came to mind at the time,' Messa said. 'They told me, 'I'll shoot you, I'll shoot you.''

Walter Messa told reporters that he initially thought  neighborhood residents were fighting before he started to approach the vehicle and noticed that the two individuals were trying to carjack one of his neighbors. Messa said he didn't back down despite being told he would be shot

The father-of-two challenged the gunman: 'Shoot me, I will put you in a black body bag.'

Messa, who previously worked as a security guard, revealed that the suspects had stolen a Renault Clio prior to the carjacking attempt, but destroyed the car when they crashed it.

He spotted one of the suspects fleeing to a suspect, where he was arrested by cops.

The other suspect remains at large.

'I didn't even think about them killing me, (acted in the spur of the moment),' Messa said. 'At that moment you don't think, if you start thinking you stay sitting at home and don't come to work, you don't do anything. If you are afraid, don't leave home.'
