The Carolina Panthers have fired head coach Frank Reich after a disastrous first season in Charlotte.

The Panthers are officially the worst team in the NFL and are assured of a sixth-straight losing season since David Tepper bought the team for $2.2billion in 2018.

The writing appeared to be on the wall for Reich on Sunday when Tepper was heard yelling 'f***' as he left the Panthers' locker room.

A statement from Tepper on Monday morning read: 'I met with Coach Reich this morning and informed him that he will not continue as head coach of the Carolina Panthers.

'I want to thank Frank for his dedication and service, and we wish him well.

'Effective immediately, Special Teams Coordinator Chris Tabor will serve as our interim head coach.

'Senior Assistant Jim Caldwell will be a special advisor to Offensive Coordinator Thomas Brown, who will take over play calling duties.'

This is the second consecutive season in which Reich has been fired midseason. Last year he was relieved of his duties by the Colts after a 3–5–1 start.

Quarterback Bryce Young has struggled massively under center for the Panthers.

They traded two first-round picks and star wide receiver DJ Moore to Chicago to land the first overall pick in this year's NFL draft.

After taking Young at No.1, he has been unable to inspire the Panthers behind a desperate offensive line.
