Former Cal Poly track and field star Shelby Daniele died from a brain aneurysm at the age of 23, it has emerged.
Daniele, who broke Cal Poly's indoor 200m record last year with a time of 24.69 seconds, passed away just months after receiving her master's degree at the university.
She competed for the Mustangs for five years between 2020 and 2024. Last week, the father of a fellow athlete wrote on social media: 'The young lady that was the driving force in (his daughter) Eva’s decision to run Track at Cal Poly, Shelby Daniele, passed away last night of a brain aneurism.
'Completely heartbreaking... hug your children every time you can and tell them you love them every day. Please say a prayer for Shelby and her family.'
