The Championship fixture between Rotherham United and Birmingham was halted following a medical emergency in the crowd.

The incident occurred in the ninth minute of the game at the AESSEAL New York Stadium, with both sets of players being taken into the dressing rooms as medical staff responded to the emergency.

Rotherham subsequently posted on X that the individual had left the stadium with medical professionals.


They added: 'We would like to thank everyone for their compassion and patience and it goes without saying that all our love and thoughts are with the casualty. 

'We would ask that the supporter's privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.'

Medical staff responded to an emergency in the crowd in the ninth minute of the game

After a short warm up period for both sides the game restarted at 3.45pm with the clock at eleven minutes.

The game had been halted for around 35 minutes before play got back underway.

Rotherham thanked the medical staff in a post on X, with a picture captioned 'heroes'. 

Rotherham wrote: 'We cannot put into words our gratitude to the paramedics, medical professionals and both sets of supporters for the incredibly compassionate way in which such a difficult situation has been handled.

'Sincerely, from every single one of us at Rotherham United, thank you.'

Birmingham wrote on X: 'The supporter in question has left the stadium with medical professionals.

'We would like to thank everyone for their compassion and patience. We send all our best wishes to those involved.'
