Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert has been ruled out for the rest of the game against the Denver Broncos after an injury to his finger in the second quarter.

It's unclear exactly when Herbert injured his hand, but the CBS broadcast showed him jogging down the tunnel and into the locker room.

After the game had ended, Chargers head coach Brandon Staley revealed that Herbert had fractured his index finger on his throwing hand - an injury which could spell the end of his season, given that we're in Week 14.

By the time he left the game, Herbert had already been sacked four times in two quarters as the Chargers' offensive line was unable to quell the Broncos' pass rush.

Replacing him at quarterback was Easton Stick - a former fifth-round pick out of North Dakota State.

Herbert is the main offensive playmaker on this Chargers team - which has a 5-7 record

Things almost went from bad to worse for the Chargers when Stick appeared to be strip sacked as Ja'Quan McMillian scooped up a fumble for a touchdown. But the call was overturned and LA went three-and-out on the drive.

Stick has only appeared in one NFL game before today - during the 2020 season, according to ProFootballReference.

Herbert is the main offensive engine for this struggling 5-7 Chargers team.

He's currently ninth in the league in passing yards with 3,038 on the year with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Herbert's QBR of 68.2 is fifth best in the league and his passer rating of 95.1 is tied with Patrick Mahomes for the tenth best in the NFL.
