Charlie Woods is set to compete in an 18-hole U.S. Open local qualifier in Florida this week, as he looks to earn a spot at Pinehurst No. 2 this summer.

The 15-year-old golf prodigy, who's the son of 82-time PGA Tour winner Tiger Woods, will play at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie on Thursday with his tee off time set at 8:18am ET.

From the 84-player qualifying field, five will advance to the 36-hole final qualifying in June.

Approximately 90 to 100 players will then advance to the 124th Open, which will be played at famed Pinehurst No. 2 for a fourth time in tournament history.

Past major champions, as well as the top 60 players in the Official World Ranking and top 30 from last year's PGA Tour FedEx Cup standings are exempt from qualifying.

Charlie Woods, 15, will play at The Legacy Golf & Tennis Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Thur.

The Pinehurst No. 2 course in North Carolina will host the U.S. Open for the fourth time in June

The United States Golf Association said there are more than 10,000 entries for this year's championship, the third time it has surpassed the 10,000 barrier, according to SI.com

The road to the U.S. Open features 109 local qualifying sites in 44 states and Canada across April and May, leading to 13 Final Qualifying sites in late May and early June.

Final Qualifying is known as Golf's Longest Day, requiring competitors to navigate 36 holes to earn a tee time at the season’s third major championship.

To be eligible for qualifying, a player must have a Handicap Index not exceeding 0.4 or be a professional.

The elder Woods is a three-time U.S. Open champion but has yet to win at Pinehurst No. 2. In 1999, he finished tied third, two strokes back of winner Payne Stewart, and in 2005, he ended up in second, two back of Michael Campbell. He didn't compete at Pinehurst in 2014.

Earlier this spring, Charlie Woods played in a pre-qualifier for the Tour's Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, his first attempt to qualify for a Tour-sponsored event.

The younger Woods shot 86 that but will look to improve in Thursday's U.S. Open local qualifier.

Tiger and Charlie Woods teamed up in the last four PNC Championships, the two-player team event contested each December that uses a scramble format. Team Woods finished runner-up in 2021 but has yet to emerge victorious from the event.

Cameron Kuchar's son, Matt, as well as Sunny Kim, Garrett Willis, Reed Greyserman (brother of Max), Austin Lemieux (son of Mario), and Michael Buttacavoli will also play at the local U.S. Open qualifier on Thursday.
