A commentator for Chelsea's official website begged for the referee to blow the final whistle after just 65 minutes of last night's 5-0 thrashing by Arsenal.

The Blues travelled to the Emirates after winning their most recent league game 6-0 against Everton, and then pushing Manchester City all the way in their FA Cup semi-final on Saturday before being beaten 1-0.

But they delivered a dire display in north London, and were fortunate to only be a goal down at the break after Leandro Trossard opened the scoring in the fourth minute.

The floodgates opened after the interval, though, as Ben White doubled the Gunners' lead, before ex-Chelsea forward Kai Havertz scored twice in eight minutes to put the result beyond doubt.

As Havertz's second goal found the corner of the net via the inside of the post in the 65th minute, Chelsea commentator Matt Davies-Adams decided he'd seen enough as he said: 'Havertz, nice shift of feet, clever finish. He's got two, Arsenal have got four. Can we have the final whistle as soon as possible please!?'

Davies-Adams has covered Chelsea matches over a number of years for the club, but will rarely have seen such a tepid performance, and he did not get his wish for the game to be ended early as Arsenal continued to pile on the misery for their London rivals.

White got his second of the game to make it 5-0 in the 70th minute, although there was more than a hint of fortune about his strike as it appeared to be an attempted cross that flew into the top corner.

His goal sparked debate among fans online over whether he meant it or not, with the player himself remaining diplomatic after the final whistle as he told TNT Sports 'I'll let everyone else decided!'

It was all smiles for White and Co at the final whistle, but the same could not be said for Chelsea after their humiliating loss, and Davies-Adams appeared to see it coming.

He did not seem at all surprised when Chelsea fell behind in the early stages as Trossard beat Djordje Petrovic at his near post, simply saying 'And they're ahead already'.

Davies-Adams was dismayed by Chelsea's defending in the second half as they conceded four more goals, with Ben White (pictured) scoring twice

Davies-Adams could not hide his dismay with Chelsea's defending for the second goal either after they were slow to spot the danger from a short corner, declaring: 'It's too easy again'. He added: 'That was not well defended from the minute they took that corner'.

He then took aim at Noni Madueke for his part in the build-up to Arsenal's third goal, imploring the winger to 'get up' after he fell to the ground under a challenge from Gabriel before Martin Odegaard picked out Havertz, who held off Marc Cucurella to fire home.

Words failed him by the end, as White's final goal was greeted with 'oh my goodness me'. Davies-Adams was at a loss to explain what was going on and Chelsea could do nothing about the Arsenal onslaught either as they slipped to their heaviest-ever defeat against the north London club.

The result leaves them in danger of missing out on European football for a second successive season, while Chelsea chiefs are yet to make a final decision on whether to keep manager Mauricio Pochettino beyond this summer following another disappointing year at Stamford Bridge.
