Former Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier has reportedly been attempting to convince Conor Gallagher to join his old cub this summer.

Gallagher captained Chelsea for the majority of last season in the absence of the injured Reece James.

The midfielder made 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and setting up another nine.

He has just one year left on his contract and has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs such as London rivals Tottenham.

Atletico Madrid are also contemplating a move and AS report that they may be aided in their pursuit by Trippier.

Trippier spent three seasons at the Metropolitano Stadium, helping Atletico win LaLiga in 2021.

AS claim Trippier has spoken ‘very highly of Atletico’ in his talks with Gallagher, telling him to think about a move.

The report claims Atletico have already seen a bid of £17m rejected during this window.

Gallagher is currently on holiday following England's European Championship heartbreak.

Gallagher was full of praise for Mauricio Pochettino following his departure and the arrival of Enzo Maresca.

He said: 'I think I’ve come a long way this season. I give a lot of credit to Pochettino and for what he’s done for me.

'He gave me responsibility and trust at Chelsea and, I think like I said, it puts me in a better position to be a bigger part of the squad for this tournament. I’m going to do everything I can to help the team as much as possible.’

Gallagher added: ‘He’s [Pochettino] done so much for me so I was sad for him and sad for the coaching staff.

‘But I’m really excited about the new manager [Enzo Maresca] coming in and myself and everyone at Chelsea are really excited to work with him.’
