Bengals kicker Evan McPherson drilled the game-winning field goal from 48 yards with less than two minutes left in overtime.
Neither team led by more than seven points throughout the game, with four lead changes.
Jaguars fans collectively held their breath as franchise quarterback Trevor Lawrence went to the turf in serious pain with a left leg injury in the fourth quarter.
The Bengals had already lost their franchise quarterback, Joe Burrow, for the season with an injury.

Lawrence was replaced in the game by C.J. Beathard for the game's final drive. On his first offensive play, Beathard fumbled the ball, although the Jaguars recovered.
McPherson nailed a 54-yard field goal to give his team a 31-28 lead with 2:28 left in the game.
Brandon McManus tied the game for Jacksonville at 31 with a field goal with 26 seconds left in the contest.
The Bengals improve to 6-6, while the Jaguars fall to 8-4.
