CNN star Ana Navarro says Latino voters who support Trump have 'very stupid' attitude

CNN's Ana Navarro has criticized fellow Latinos who support Donald Trump, labeling their attitudes towards immigration as 'very stupid.' 

Navarro suggested that some Latino immigrants seem to forget their own immigrant roots and mistakenly believe that being anti-immigrant will help them assimilate better into American society. 

Speaking on CNN on Friday night, Navarro expressed her frustration with such a mindset, saying it only serves to highlight how it contributes to a divisive atmosphere.

'There are some Latino immigrants who forget they came here as immigrants and who want to shut the door behind them, and who think being anti-immigrant somehow is going to make them pass as more American, pass as whatever. And that's a very stupid attitude to have.' 

Navarro cited the a 2019 mass shooting in El Paso, Texas, where a gunman targeted Hispanics, to underscore her point. 

She emphasized that when racists target Latinos, they don't care about their immigration status or accent and simply see them as part of a group they despise. 

'What folks don't realize is that when the guy drives thousands of miles to go hunt down Latinos in a Walmart in Texas, he doesn't care when you came here. He doesn't care what your accent is,' Navarro said. 

'What he's looking for is, does it look like me, does it sound like me? That's what he's looking for. So, you know, when people are anti-something, they're not asking for your papers, they're just anti-that group.' 

The former GOP strategist, known for her sharp criticism of the Republican Party argued that Latino support for anti-immigrant rhetoric is misguided.

The conversation on CNN came following a pro-Trump rally in the Bronx, New York, which has historically been Democratic stronghold. 

Local media suggested between 8,000 to 10,000 people attended, but the Trump campaign calculated their figures to be more than 25,000. 

The event drew a diverse crowd, including many black and Latino Americans concerned about illegal immigration, crime, and inflation under President Biden.

Despite the diversity of the crowd, Trump continued to spout his harsh rhetoric on immigration, which Navarro and CNN host Jim Acosta both condemned as incendiary and divisive.

'[Trump is] using incendiary rhetoric to demonize immigrants during his appeal to black and Hispanic voters,' Acosta said.

At one point, Trump claimed illegal immigration was leading to rapes, abuse, and the spread of disease. It ultimately saw the crowd chanting 'send them back!' 

The rise in Latino and African American support for Trump could pose a challenge to Biden's re-election campaign.

Navarro expressed her frustration that many people overlook Trump's racist and misogynistic behavior, viewing it as part of his persona rather than recognizing its harmful impact on society.

'People already know the guy's a misogynist, they already know he's a racist, they already know he says divisive things, and they seem not to take him literally or seriously,' Navarro said. 'They think it is part of a clown act entertainment.' 

Navarro, who is outspoken in her opposition to Trump and frequently advocates for Democratic candidates, said she believes the apparent increase in Trump's support among such demographics is party due to the public's tendency to dismiss Trump's controversial remarks as mere entertainment, rather than taking them seriously.
