Cole Palmer is already back in the gym less than 48 hours after England's hearbreaking Euro 2024 final defeat.

Palmer was part of the side that reached the last two in Germany, making five appearances at the tournament and scoring in the final, a goal which looked to have helped England to extra time.

But Mikel Oyarzabal poked home minutes from the final whistle to break English hearts, meaning the Three Lions suffered defeat once again in the final of the European Championship.

The players flew back from Germany on Monday, with Gareth Southgate resigning as manager the same day and a number of player preparing to jet off for a holiday.

Palmer, however, was in the gym that night working, snapped lifting weights in the gym ahead of the new Premier League season.

Social media footage showed the 22-year-old in workout gear sat on a bench, performing a shoulder press with what appeared to be a personal trainer.

The caption read: '@colepalmer10 straight back to it.'

Palmer logged 22 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League last season in what was a breakout campaign for the star in his first year with the Blues since his move from Manchester City last summer.

He has become one of the highest-rated players in the league, and now appears to be ready to kick on again, seemingly sacraficing a potential break to get the work in early in the gym.

Chelsea will get their pre-season campaign underway on Thursday July 25 when they take on Wrexham in the United States, with Enzo Maresca now taking charge of the squad after replacing Mauricio Pochettino as boss during the off-season.

Players playing at Euro 2024 or the Copa America may be afforded extra time off, but they don't necessarily have to take it, and Palmer could be included in the travelling squad.

Chelsea have already returned to pre-season training, with a number of players who didn't play in international tournaments over the summer present.

Maresca struggled hide his frustration at one player as a clip from a training session at Cobham was released.

In a training clip, Maresca could be heard telling winger Noni Madueke, 'Noni, two touches, three touches is too much'.

He was one of the players that fronted the press after the game, urging his side to win the World Cup

Palmer, meanwhile, was one of the England players who spoke out after the final defeat by Spain, expressing his disappointment after he was seen looking heartbroken on the pitch at full time.

He said: 'We got to another final, there are positives to take. Obviously everyone wanted to go a step further, and we're disappointed that we didn't.

World Cup's in two years' time, we need to remember this feeling and hopefully push on and try and win it.

'Spain have been brilliant all tournament, everyone has seen what they can do, so they're a great team, congratulations to them. It hurts... I'm gutted.'

He later wrote on Instagram: 'Gutted. An honour to represent my country in a major tournament, thank you to everyone for their support throughout the tournament.'
