Conor McGregor is spending time with his family while recovering from the injury that ruined his UFC comeback, his reps have insisted - despite an MMA analyst saying he was actually in rehab.

The Irishman, 35, was officially ruled out of UFC 303 last week, where he was slated to fight Michael Chandler in Las Vegas later in June, due to an unspecified injury.

Speaking on ESPN MMA on Monday, former MMA fighter Chael Sonnen dropped a massive hint that McGregor was not injured and actually had checked into rehab for alcohol and substance abuse.

But a spokesperson for McGregor told DailyMail.Com on Tuesday: 'Mr McGregor is with his family.

'The fight was cancelled after an injury he sustained during training. He is looking forward to a new date.'

On Sunday, McGregor posted a picture on Instagram with his baby son to celebrate Father's Day. He has four children with his partner Dee Devlin.

While Sonnen didn't name McGregor directly, there can be no doubt who he was talking about as he dropped several references to McGregor's 'Proper Twelve' whiskey brand.

In a conversation about the postponed fight with Daniel Cormier, Sonnen spoke about how both Chandler and McGregor have promoted alcohol during their careers.

'What incredible irony that both sides have these massive interests in alcohol, and one side is in the middle of rehab for substance abuse, including alcohol,' he said, before sarcastically stroking his chin and adding: 'Not that that has anything to do with this.

'Did it just get hot in here? Oh, it just got hot in here. Uh oh, the big guy came out and said it. He wasn't supposed to talk about that. Well, that's why people tune in.

Cormier then claimed he didn't hear what Sonnen said, so he repeated his claim.

'It was unrelated,' he said. 'Two guys pushing alcohol, totally unrelated story. And then a guy is in rehab for alochol and other substances. Just saying, that's a tough story.

'Have this proper drink. I'll see you in a proper while because I am in a proper facility right now, watching me not have drinks. I'm bringing up the irony of the point, that's all Daniel.'

Cormier looked uncomfortable as Sonnen ranted and he said: 'Chael, you're out of your mind' before returning the conversation to the UFC.

McGregor published a statement about the fight being off on Saturday, saying: 'Very tough to be ruled out of my scheduled return bout.

'The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly, but one made in consultation with my doctors, the UFC, and my team. My fans and opponent deserve me at my best for this fight and we will get there!

'Thank you for the messages of support, I am in good spirits and confident I’ll be back!'

McGregor posted again on social media Tuesday night, saying he had placed a $60,000 bet on Cristiano Ronaldo to finish as top scorer at Euro 2024.

He last fought in 2021 in Vegas, losing to Dustin Poirier after breaking his leg in the bout.
