A host of footy commentators as well as countless fans on social media have loudly questioned the controversial sin-binning of Wests Tigers captain Api Koroisau  - with the consensus referee Adam Gee made the wrong call.

At the time Cronulla only led 12-6, with the contest in the balance until Koroisau was given a ten minute spell for what was deemed a professional foul.

Gee was adamant the Tigers hooker wasn't square at marker after he tackled Ronaldo Mulitalo - and despite Koroisau's animated protest, he was sin-binned on Friday night.

'You didn't get there in time,' Gee could be heard saying on the field.

Fox League's Corey Parker wasn't convinced at the call from Gee which unfolded midway through the first half at Pointsbet Stadium.

'Frustrating for Api Koroisau, who wanted to challenge [as captain] that he didn't get square. It would be a fair challenge if he did,' Parker said.

'He was standing there in front.'

Rabbtiohs hooker Damien Cook added during the halftime analysis the sin-binning was a 'bit harsh', with Panthers great Greg Alexander on the same page.

Koroisau was adamant he was at marker - but he couldn't convince the referee, who gave him a ten-minute spell for a professional foul against the Sharks, who eventually won 58-6

Channel 9 commentators Phil Gould and Andrew Johns also said in their coverage Koroisau should have stayed on the field.

Dual-code international Lote Tuqiri spoke for many fans when he posted on social media the Tigers skipper was 'dudded.'

It proved to be a night to forget for Benji Marshall's men, who were eventually hammered 58-6.

They also appear to be on course to 'win' their third successive wooden spoon.

'It (Koroisau's sin-binning) doesn't matter, they scored 58 points,' Marshall fumed post game as he also apologised to the club's long-suffering fans.

'We talked all week about having a defensive attitude and it was nowhere, sin-bin or no sin-bin, it doesn't matter.

'This is the first time we've had that attitude all year, in most games we are in there competing but tonight we weren't.'
